Steamboat Springs is the largest town and county seat of Routt County in Northern Colorado. In 2010 the town's official population was 12,088.
Sitting at the base of the Park Range, Steamboat Springs is a prime destination for skiers. The number of people in Steamboat Springs tends to be much larger than its official population.
The town is named after a hot spring near the Yampa river that trappers thought sounded like a steamboat running up the river.
